The share of refinancing applications in the total number of mortgage applications reached 44%, which was the highest figure since December 2024, notes Freddie Mac. Mortgage loans for 15 years are issued on average at 5.79% per annum against 5.94% a week earlier and 6.22% a year earlier. Freddie Mac calculates average rates based on data from 80 mortgage lenders in the United States. Rates do not take into account commissions and other payments related to the issuance of a mortgage. Meanwhile, the number of homeless people in America increased in 2024 by 18% in annual terms and exceeded 770 thousand people. This is a record figure in the history of the country, according to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
