📝 Summary

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called on the European Union to begin direct talks with Russia on a ceasefire in Ukraine. This was reported by the Financial Times with reference to the text of Orban’s letter to the President of the European Council Antonio Costa.

The head of the Hungarian government opposes attempts to coordinate EU efforts to support the Kiev regime. The newspaper quotes Orban’s call for the European Union to start “direct discussions with Russia on a ceasefire” in Ukraine. The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that Budapest’s position on the Ukrainian conflict differs from the views of other EU members. “It has become clear that there are strategic differences in our approach to Ukraine that cannot be overcome by drafting documents or sharing information,” the letter said. Earlier, Costa scheduled an urgent EU summit on March 6, at which it is planned to discuss security guarantees for Kiev and the defense of Europe.
