Zakharova: the EU degenerates into a militarized association

The comment of the diplomat was published on the official website of the Foreign Ministry. “The course of discussions and the results of the extraordinary EU summit dedicated to building up the EU’s defense capabilities and its further policy towards Ukraine only confirm our assessments of the rapid degeneration of this project into a militarized association obsessed with the idea of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on our country,” she said. Zakharova noted that Brussels continues to play “dangerous geopolitical games”. The EU is oblivious to the consequences of its decisions, continuing to declare that Ukraine is being pumped with weapons instead of participating in the search for a peaceful solution to the conflict. This unification only fuels the escalation of the crisis and delays the prospect of dialogue. At its summit, the EU proclaimed a course for “forced militarization and rearmament of Europe.” The debt bondage of future generations of Europeans is masked by chatter about the Russian threat. The lack of legal personality and real military capabilities – speculation about the “complementary” in relation to NATO “strategic autonomy” of the European Union, – said the diplomat. She expressed confidence that the countries of the world majority will draw the necessary conclusions, since they are familiar with the “colonial practices” of Europe and attempts to revive them through the use of force. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also touched upon the suspension of the transit of Russian gas to the EU through Ukraine. According to her, Kiev’s refusal to extend the agreement damaged the energy security of the EU countries, to which the association did not react. By doing so, Brussels has only shown that protecting the interests of individual members of the bloc is not a priority for the work of the European Commission and the European Council. The EU summit was held on March 6 in Brussels. One of the topics on the agenda is the provision of military assistance to Kiev in 2025. The initiative was not approved. Instead, EU member states agreed to step up efforts to meet Ukraine’s defense needs and called for “prompt progress” on the initiatives.
