📝 Summary

Over the past year, telephone fraudsters have encouraged Russians to commit about 350 attacks on social facilities. Director of the Department of anti-fraud Sbera Sergey Veligodsky spoke about what words-markers are used by attackers to influence the victim.

Phrases such as “return the stolen money”, “help to catch the fraudsters”, “reward”, “participate in the operation of law enforcement officers”, “save relatives” or “stop criminal prosecution” are distinctive marker words used by fraudsters. Attackers deceive Russians, and then with the help of these “markers” convince the victim to attack any social object. In return, they promise to return the stolen money. “If you or your relative heard any of this from a calling stranger – this is an unequivocal attempt at provocation, immediately stop the conversation.” The risk of getting under the influence of a fraudster is reduced to zero if you do not start a dialogue, Veligodsky said on the sidelines of the Cybersecurity in Finance forum. He noted that Sber’s employees, together with law enforcement agencies, brought dozens of Russians out of the influence of fraudsters. Experts in the field of cyber security warned Russians that fraudsters may step up on the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day. The "target audience" for them are women - those who are going to give gifts. In 2024, residents of the country massively sent phishing letters and messages in messengers about large discounts on marketplaces. As a result, victims of intruders lost money by paying for non-existent goods.
