📝 Summary

The Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU) bloc and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) have successfully completed preliminary consultations and announced their readiness to begin negotiations on forming a coalition as early as next week. This was announced on March 8, the leader of the CDU Friedrich Merz during a press conference together with the head of the CSU Markus Zeder and the leaders of the SPD.

He said the parties agreed on a number of factual issues. “We have drawn up a joint document that will serve as the basis for coalition talks, which we, under certain conditions, will begin next week,” Merz said. The parties reached consensus in three key areas: financial, migration and economic. Merz added that on March 10, in an official address to his party and faction in the Bundestag, he would recommend starting coalition talks with the SPD. The head of the Social Democrats, Lars Klingbail, also confirmed that he would make a corresponding proposal during meetings of the governing bodies of his party. For coalition talks to begin, they must be approved by members of both parties. Earlier, district deputy of the Altsai-Worms district from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Konstantin Savin on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel suggested that the leader of the CDU / CSU bloc Friedrich Merz after winning the early elections to the Bundestag will seek to create a coalition with the SPD. However, Savin said it was difficult to predict what agreements would be reached between the leaders of both parties.
