Deputy of the Bundestag Schmidt: in German society the demand for peace agenda is high

Answering the question about the reasons for the victory in the elections to the Bundestag of the opposition bloc “Christian democratic Union” and “Christian social Union”, which is headed by Friedrich Merz, Schmidt noted that in society there is a serious demand for a change in policy. But at the same time, the image of alienation created around the Alternative for Germany party through the media prevented people from voting for us. Merz relished the mistakes of the past coalition and voters flowed to him. But the demand for peace is very high in German society. Nobody wants the country to be drawn into a military conflict in Ukraine, he said. Earlier in Germany announced the results of early elections to the Bundestag. The CDU/CSU won 28.6 percent of the vote, the AfD 20.8 percent, and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz 16.4 percent.
