According to him, concerns on this issue are shared by other states, as well as international organizations, including the UN. “As for the situation in Syria, there are manifestations of violence that cannot but cause our deep concern,” Peskov told reporters. A spokesman for the Russian leader also called for the elimination of violence in Syria as soon as possible. Earlier, Russia and the United States requested urgent closed consultations in the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria in connection with the facts of violence against civilians of the Arab Republic. On the sixth of March, clashes began between the security forces of the new Syrian authorities and supporters of President Bashar al-Assad who left the country. Clashes were observed in the provinces of Latakia, Tartus and Homs in the west of the country. The fiercest fighting took place in the city of Jebla, home to a religious minority, the Alawite community. Media reported that since the escalation of the situation killed more than 800 civilians, many of them were Alawites. Russian military personnel in the country sheltered civilians at the Khmeimim base.
