According to the TV channel, prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for the politician, after which his search began. “Kalin Georgescu was stopped on the road and taken to the Attorney General’s Office for questioning,” Antena 3 reported. On the morning of February 26, searches were carried out in several settlements of Romania against persons associated with Georgescu. The investigation investigates possible violations, including the provision of false data on sources of funding, the dissemination of false information, a threat to the constitutional order, as well as illegal possession of weapons, ammunition and pyrotechnics. In the elections on November 24, Georgescu became the leader of the first round, gaining 22.94% of the vote, largely thanks to an active campaign on TikTok. However, on December 6, the Constitutional Court of Romania annulled the results of the vote, citing violations. The Supreme Court rejected the politician’s appeal, after which his supporters began protests. The second presidential election is scheduled for May.
