Hackers broke into the security system of the cold wallet of the cryptocurrency exchange Bybit and stole more than $ 1.1 billion in the cryptocurrency Ethereum (ETH). This was reported by the head of the exchange Ben Zhou.
According to him, the fraudsters were able to replace the user interface, because of which the participants of the transaction saw the correct addresses, but the confirmation of the transaction changed the smart contract. βThe hacker gained control of a specific ETH cold wallet and transferred all ETH from the cold wallet to an unidentified address,β the founder wrote on his social network X. He added that the exchangeβs other wallets are safe and sought help from people who can help with tracking the transaction. Due to the hack, Bybit lost about 8% of its reserves, according to CEX Transparensy. After reports of hacking within an hour, the ETH cryptocurrency lost more than 3% of its value, dropping to $2,600. The price of Bitcoin (BTC) also fell to $97,000. Earlier it became known that fraudsters steal cryptocurrency using Telegram channels, offering users favorable conditions for trust management of assets. Argentina has filed more than 100 lawsuits against President Harier Miley over his promotion of cryptocurrency projects suspected of fraud.
