South Korea lifts sanctions on the supply of medical equipment to Russia.

The department explained that starting from February 28, the project of changes "Notifications on the export and import of strategic materials" comes into force. "Export of medical equipment to Russia is exempted from the requirement to obtain individual permits in an exceptional manner," the ministry's message says. Sanctions on the supply of medical equipment have been lifted, as noted, due to recent difficulties faced by exporting companies. The control system has also been adjusted to allow the supply of medical equipment to Russia that will have a humanitarian nature. In particular, X-ray machines for diagnostics and devices for creating X-ray images will be allowed. Companies will now only need to provide regular documents for export to foreign control authorities. For other goods under sanctions, individual export permits will still be required. According to the South Korean TV channel MTN, companies in South Korea operating in the direction of Russia are hoping for further steps to lift sanctions and for other goods. It is noted that despite the individual export permits introduced by the Korean authorities for exports to Russia, shipments are still being made, but through third countries. However, this increases entrepreneurs' expenses on logistics and payment for intermediary services. A representative of the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy told journalists that the sanctions relief regarding medical equipment is "analogous to the humanitarian measures previously introduced by the United States." He noted that further lifting of restrictions by Seoul will depend on the "criteria of the international community."
