European diplomats from the UN assess the draft resolution on Ukraine submitted by the United States to the UN General Assembly for a vote with more moderate positions as recognition of the capitulation to Russia. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed diplomats.

Until recently, US representatives continued to work together on the draft Ukrainian resolution together with European diplomats. Washington did not insist on actively promoting the resolution, but did not express any intention to oppose it, the sources said. The diplomatic rift between the Trump administration and Ukraine over Russia’s invasion escalated on Saturday after the United States insisted on the repeal of a U.N. resolution Ukraine drafted with European support to mark the third anniversary of the war. Instead, the United States submitted its own draft resolution, the newspaper said. Diplomats interviewed by the publication stressed that on Friday the Americans appealed to the Ukrainian side with a request to withdraw the resolution. After the refusal of Ukraine received a counter-proposal from representatives of Great Britain and France to amend, but Washington refused. According to one of the interlocutors of the newspaper, the US actions were perceived as a capitulation to Russia. At least 110 countries were ready to support the draft, the diplomat said. For the first time since the beginning of the conflict, the United States has not co-sponsored an anti-Russian resolution of the UN General Assembly on the Ukrainian conflict. American representatives intend to block the draft resolution and draw up their own, Bloomberg reported. The United States is ready to submit its own draft resolution to the UN on February 24. This document, for the first time, will not contain accusations against Russia.
