Theatre in Cinema presents the premiere of the film version of Paul I

Thanks to the project of our TV channel Theatre in Cinema, one of the most high-profile Moscow productions will now be able to see viewers all over the country. It started in November 2023 and continues to gain momentum. During this time, the geography of screenings of high-profile theater premieres has expanded almost twice and reached a hundred cities. The second season of Theatre in the Movie reached the equator. The creators of the project meet it with a screening of the film version of the play "Paul I". Before the show, the lead actor Alexander Oleshko gives the audience posters with autographs. The play "Paul I" is held at the Vakhtangov Theater twice a month. There are no tickets for March or the end of April. And in the cinema there is more capacity, and besides here you can see every detail. To make this possible, the team of the Theatre in Cinema project was shooting from eight cameras. Several times during the evening performances, when the audience sat in the hall, several in the afternoon, when individual scenes had to be filmed at maximum size. “The performance lasts two and a half hours – it means that we actually had three performances, if you multiply all this by eight cameras, it turned out about 46-50 hours of material, from which we then collected it,” said Konstantin Kuts, the director of the film version, the main director of the TV channel “Russia-Culture”. The director of the stage version of Paul I Natalia Kovaleva was there all this time. Why did she trust the transfer of her brainchild from the theater to the cinema? Answers: I saw in the eyes of the employees of the project "Theater in the cinema" love for their work. By the way, to stage a play with Alexander Oleshko, she agreed not immediately, says: afraid to work with famous actors, suddenly they wake up star sickness. One detail convinced her of that. “I was particularly impressed by the fact that I saw him reading children’s fairy tales at the Vakhtangov Theatre. And I think: here's an artist who has everything, for some reason reads children's fairy tales. So, there is something so delicate and subtle in it, so maybe we can come up with something together, Natalia Kovaleva admitted. What was their joint work, now thanks to the project "Theater in the cinema" will be seen in a hundred cities. Alexander Oleshko himself calls Paul I a Russian Hamlet and a late prince. His hero became emperor at the age of 42. He didn't have long to live. If he had managed to do everything he wanted to do for Russia, for an ordinary person, I think that many geopolitical catastrophes of today, the twenty-first century, could have been avoided. Therefore, I really wanted to carry this “telegram” through the thickness of years, said Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Oleshko. Now this telegram will be read in different parts of the country. In the future, the Theatre in Cinema project is preparing to enter the international arena. We are talking with our partners about having a show outside Russia. This is primarily Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan. Negotiations are going slowly, but we hope for success, said Lyubov Platonova, deputy director of Russia-Culture TV channel and producer of the Theatre in Cinema project. An indicator of this success is the lack of free seats at the premiere. “I don’t have very good eyesight, so you see, with glasses. Because of this, there are always problems in the theater. But the actor plays every wrinkle, every movement of his eyes. Therefore, I really want to see big actors on the big screen, said Vladimir Medinsky, Russian presidential aide and chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society. “I think this is a wonderful project. People who cannot come to the Vakhtangov Theatre will watch the play “Paul I” anywhere in our country, said the satirist Lyon Izmailov. “The younger generation does not read very well, they like visual arts. And I think that this is very relevant, added Honored Artist of Russia Nina Shatskaya. The immersion in the recreated to the smallest detail of the era lasts two and a half hours, and ahead of “Theatre in the cinema” there are many high-profile premieres and warm meetings on the red carpet.
