Trump’s phone conversation with Putin took place on February 12. The two heads of state spoke for an hour and a half. Later, the Russian and American delegations met in Riyadh, following the discussions, the parties agreed to begin preparations for the meeting between Putin and Trump. “I had very good talks with Putin ... [and] not very good talks with Ukraine,” Trump said at a meeting with the governors. Trump has said Zelensky is a “bad negotiator” and a “dictator without elections” and that his presence in peace talks is “not very important.” On Friday, the American leader announced plans to hold a new round of talks between the United States and Russia on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, on Tuesday, February 25.
