The permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov did not rule out that the European Union (EU) will be able to find funds for investments in defense, but not in the declared amount of 800 billion euros.
The leaders of the member states agreed on the plan of militarization at the enlarged EU summit. “I think that is likely. But it may not be in the amount that they expect, not 800 billion [euros], less, but in principle this cannot be excluded, Ulyanov said in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel. He also expressed his opinion on the dependence of the EU on American decisions. “The Europeans have one problem: they are used to acting as vassals, all the time looking at their older brother, the United States, and acting independently, and even psychologically, it is still difficult for them, although in the light of the latest developments [there are] such encroachments,” he said. Also in an interview with TV channel “Russia 24” Ulyanov said that the topic of the Russian threat to Europe is largely far-fetched.
