📝 Summary

The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen proposed a program that will strengthen the defense of the European Union. The rearmament plan was sent to the leaders of 27 EU countries.

In a letter to the leaders of 27 European countries, she presented her plan for the rearmament of the EU with a budget of 800 billion euros. In the program of strengthening the defense of the EU, von der Leyen proposed to increase defense spending of European countries by 1.5% of GDP. This, she said, would free up 650 billion euros over four years. In addition, the head of the EC proposes to allocate to the EU 150 billion dollars for defense spending. Its program involves the mobilization of about 800 billion euros. "The EU's rearmament plan could mobilize around 800 billion euros for defence spending for a secure and sustainable Europe," she told reporters in Brussels. Its plan consists of five points, including the creation of a new tool that allows to accelerate and increase military assistance to Kiev. Ursula von der Leyen added that the discussion of the initiative will take place on March 6 in the Belgian capital during an emergency EU summit. Earlier, Politico reported that the European Union had to stop the preparation of a new package of assistance to Ukraine because of the position of Hungary. Because of this, the Kiev regime will not receive 20 billion euros.
