Various "Stories of Music" offer to learn in the House of Culture "HES-2". This time, Richard Strauss’s melodrama Enoch Arden was played here. A musical and poetic production, where the word performs on a par with the music, was heard by Jenneth Arlt. The series of concerts of "Music History" in "HES-2" is not only the sound of new, modern music, but also works of the past that were beyond the audience's attention. The melodrama "Enoch Arden" by Richard Strauss is one of them, in the concert hall among the audience - connoisseurs of the symphonic and opera genre. The composition, written at the end of the XIX century, until the second half of the last century was practically not performed. At one time it was first performed in the Soviet Union in the early 80s by the great conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky. Then she disappeared from music forever. It still remains in our country and abroad, on the periphery of the repertoire, and it was very important for us to pull it out and show that Richard Strauss can be quite different, that it is not necessarily 200 people of the orchestra and colossal sound arrays, but just two people – a reader and a pianist – to create a performance of musical theater, notes the curator of music programs of the V-A-C Foundation and the Moscow house of culture “HES-2” Dmitry Renansky. The basis of the composition was a poem by the English poet Alfred Tennyson, the plot of which is similar to “Rodisson” and “Robinezon”. This is the story of a fisherman who survives a shipwreck and returns home (where he has a wife and children) ten years later. Instead of a happy ending, the hero is disappointed. The wife married a rival, one child died. Arden can not open up to loved ones, realizing that his appearance will destroy their happiness. Performed by Viktor Ryzhakov and pianist Sergei Kasprov, Strauss’s melodrama sounds in a Russian translation, which was made by the philosopher Gustav Shpet in the mid-30s, From the outside it is difficult to determine the genre of this score for the reader and piano – this is a musical composition with text, or a dramatic performance to the sounds of a piano. For director Dmitry Volkostrelov, the answer is obvious. “More musical, in this work there is a very large musical resource, of course, but theatrical, for the performance I feel it much less,” says director Dmitry Volkostrelov. And if music conveys feelings and mood, then the meanings are still in the text. “Our life in this world, among people and the attempts of each person to live this life in some way is not meaningless. She's kind of uplifting. I think that today is very important, says actor, director Viktor Ryzhakov. In the next concerts of the series "Music History" in "HES-2" - the works of Arnold Schoenberg, Igor Stravinsky, Johanness Kreidler, Luciano Berio about modern Russian composers.
