The second round of early elections of the President of Abkhazia will be held on March 1. It will be attended by Badra Gunba and Adgur Ardzinba, who received the most votes in the first round on February 15. There was a debate on the candidates the day before.
To win the second round, a candidate needs to get a majority of the votes. Elections are considered to be held with the participation of at least 25% of the people included in the lists. The elected President of the Republic shall take office after taking the oath. The term of office of the head of Abkhazia is five years. Early elections were called after the resignation of Aslan Bjania. He left office in 2024 at the request of the opposition amid a domestic political crisis.
