The Kremlin spokesman also stressed that Russia will closely monitor the actions of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU) that won the elections. “Every time I want to hope for a more sober approach to reality, for a more sober approach to what could be issues representing mutual interests, mutual benefit, but how will it actually be, we will see,” Peskov told reporters. According to the German electoral commission, the CDU/CSU leads the election with 28.6% of the vote. The second place is occupied by Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 20.8% of the vote. In third place with 16.4% of the vote are the Social Democrats (SPD) of the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
