Expert Voitolovsky ruled out the possibility of EU peacekeepers in Ukraine
The peacekeeping contingent of the European Union or NATO states cannot be deployed in Ukraine, since the peacekeepers cannot be from countries directly or indirectly involved in the conflict. The peacekeeping contingent of the European Union or NATO states cannot be deployed in Ukraine, since the peacekeepers cannot be from countries directly or indirectly involved in the conflict. This was stated by the Director of the Institute of world economy and international relations named after E. M. Primakov RAS Fedor Voitolovsky on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24”.
Voitolovsky noted that any decision on the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent can only be considered as a result of a relevant resolution adopted by the UN Security Council. According to the expert, Russia, being a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will not allow any other contingent in Ukraine, except for UN peacekeepers. In the event of a settlement of the conflict, we can only talk about the deployment of UN peacekeepers on the basis of the resolution. And, of course, they cannot be forces that are directly or indirectly a party to the conflict. Accordingly, there can be no question of deploying the forces of the EU or NATO countries as peacekeepers, because they supported Ukraine, Voitolovsky said. Earlier, the Kremlin commented on the information about the possible deployment of European peacekeepers in Ukraine. The spokesman of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is monitoring reports about the relevant plans of Europe and expresses its concern in this regard.
