📝 Summary

Badra Gunba, a candidate for president of Abkhazia, said that if elected, his first step would be to initiate changes to the intergovernmental agreement with Russia. This will allow citizens of the republic to receive medical care in Russia using only a foreign passport.

Gunba noted that many Abkhazians with Russian citizenship face difficulties in accessing medical services. The problem is that they only have a foreign passport, but there is no internal passport and SNILS, which are required to receive free medical care in Russian institutions. We have received consent for such work [from the Russian authorities]. And I am sure that after the elections, we will return to this issue, Gunba said after a visit to the Republican hospital together with Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko. The politician also discussed this topic during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. He noted that he had already given a number of instructions to prepare amendments to the interstate agreement to improve this “very important area”. Last year alone, about 8,000 citizens of our country were sent for treatment outside the Republic of Abkhazia. Such interaction will allow our citizens to receive high-quality medical care, Badra Gunba added. Patients were previously sent from Abkhazia to Russia for treatment, but this happened only in difficult cases, and the republic had to pay for medical care. Thus, Abkhazia has accumulated a debt to Russian clinics in the amount of 18.5 million rubles. In December, part of the debt was paid.
