📝 Summary

One person has been detained on suspicion of causing death by negligence over the collision of the Stena Immaculate and Solong vessels off the UK coast. This was reported by Humberside Police.

Law enforcement officers said that they suspect a 59-year-old man in the crime, against whom a criminal investigation was launched jointly with the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency. “The detainee is currently in custody, an investigation is ongoing and we continue to communicate with all those involved to establish the full circumstances of the incident,” said senior investigator Craig Nicholson. On board the tanker Stena Immaculate, explosions began after colliding with the Portuguese container ship Solong near Kingston upon Hull on March 10. Sky News reported the rescue of all 37 sailors from both ships. Then Solong’s owner, Ernst Russ, said one of the container ship’s crew members was missing. Member of the British Parliament Mike Kane confirmed the missing sailor and said that he is presumed dead. A bulk carrier that collided with a U.S. tanker carried a cargo of alcohol and 15 containers of sodium cyanide, a highly toxic compound that causes choking and heart failure. The substance itself does not burn, but when interacting with water, it emits combustible gas and toxic fumes.
