The southern district military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Russian serviceman Alexander Tkachenko to 19 years in prison in the case of the murder of a colleague and the attempt on the second.

According to the investigation, the crime was committed in October 2023 in a military unit in the Kherson region. There Tkachenko arrived at the service, but did not report his arrival. He began to drink alcohol with his colleagues: Junior Sergeant Saveliev and Private Yakovlev. During the feast, the drinkers said that Tkachenko evaded service because he was afraid of participating in the SVO. In the evening of the same day, Tkachenko fired at least 15 shots at Saveliev and Yakovlev from a machine gun, after which he fled. Saveliev died on the spot, Yakovlev doctors managed to save. Before that, Tkachenko, who served under contract, was in hospital for two months and in August 2023 did not appear on time in a military unit stationed at that time in Volgograd. In late August, police arrested him in Voronezh, where he was buying drugs. The detainee was handed over to the military commandant's office, TASS reports, and Tkachenko's case has been heard in court behind closed doors since May last year. He was charged with murder, attempted murder, unauthorized abandonment of a part or place of duty and illegal acquisition of drugs.
