Rosstat: in Russia sharply increased natural population decline

The number of births decreased last year by 3.4% to 1 million 222.4 thousand children against 1 million 264.9 thousand children in 2023. The number of deaths increased by 3.3% to 1 million 818.6 thousand people from 1 million 760.2 thousand people in 2023. The natural decline of the population of Russia decreased in 2023 by 17.4% to 495.2 thousand people against 599.6 thousand people in 2022. At the same time, in 2022, the indicator decreased by 42.5% compared to the indicator of 2021 (1 million 42.7 thousand people). According to preliminary estimates, the population of Russia (excluding new territories) decreased by January 1, 2025 to 146,028 million people against 146,151 million by January 1, 2024. Meanwhile, the population of the Kherson agglomeration decreased from 500 thousand to 50-60 thousand people, said on December 22, 2024, the Governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo.
