Sniper reconnaissance Golubev about the battle at height 776: his salvation is obliged to the commander
Alexei Golubev, a sniper reconnaissance officer of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division, owes his life to the commander, who ordered him to stay at the checkpoint and not participate in the storming of Hill 776 in the Argun Gorge during the second Chechen war. Golubev had to give his camouflage robe to a comrade who went to reconnaissance in his place. I owe my life to my commander, the Guard Lieutenant Kozhemyakin Dmitry Sergeyevich, Hero of Russia posthumously. We did not have a sapper in the reconnaissance group at that time, and the senior lieutenant [Alexander] Kolgatin, also a Hero of Russia, came posthumously. And since our scouts went only in maskhalats, then on the orders of my commander Kozhemyakin I gave him my maskhalat and stayed at the checkpoint, which saved my life, said Golubev. He added that along with the 6th company, which was ordered to take the height, his reconnaissance platoon also left. Later it became known that a group of 90 people faced Chechen militants and almost all died heroically. The battle at 776 occurred on the night of March 1, 2000. In an unequal battle with Chechen gangs heroically killed Pskov paratroopers from the 6th company of the 76th Guards air assault division. They had to stop the militants who planned to reach Dagestan and commit a series of terrorist attacks there. In the battle, 84 paratroopers died at the height, the losses by Chechen militants are estimated at 400 to 500 people.
