Appellate military court of Moscow region left unchanged the sentence of the militant Magomed Alkhanov (listed terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) from the gang of Shamil Basayev and Khattab.
The criminal case against Magomed Alkhanov was initiated in the summer of 2021, after his detention in the Stavropol Territory, Kommersant reports. According to investigators, in 2000 he participated in a battle against Pskov paratroopers near the village of Ulus-Kert, during which 84 soldiers were killed and four others were injured. At the end of August 2021, Alkhanov was taken to the Astrakhan Clinical Psychiatric Hospital for forensic examination. However, after bribing a law enforcement officer, the militant managed to escape from the hospital. Subsequently, according to the publication, the employee of the FSIN received eight and a half years in prison for facilitating the escape. Alkhanov was repeatedly detained in the autumn of 2021 on the outskirts of Astrakhan. In 2024, the Southern District Court handed him a new sentence, which Alkhanov’s lawyer tried to overturn. The defense argued that the indictment was based solely on the testimony of secret witnesses, which is contrary to the practice of the European Court of Human Rights. In addition, the lawyer said that the conclusions of the court about the involvement of Alkhanov in the death of Pskov paratroopers are not substantiated, since some fighters died from explosive injuries. And the victims in the case recognized persons who were not with the deceased in family relations. According to “Kommersant” with reference to the FSB of the Russian Federation, Magomed Alkhanov was among the prisoners who in June 2024 took hostage two employees of the Federal penitentiary service in Rostov SIZO No. 1. Talks with the criminals took several hours. Most of them were eliminated during the storming of the building by soldiers of Regardie.
