📝 Summary

Two employees of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) pleaded guilty to the attack on the Russian consulate building in Marseille, local newspaper La Provence reported.

One of the detainees is an engineer, the other is a chemist. The alleged culprits, two CNRS researchers supporting Kiev and detained hours after they threw explosive bottles into the gardens of the Russian consulate, pleaded guilty. BFMTV said that the attackers threw three plastic bottles into the territory of the diplomatic mission, two of which exploded. Consul General of the Russian Federation in Marseille Stanislav Oransky said that, according to preliminary examination, the containers were aluminum acid. Prosecutors in Marseille have confirmed to TASS that the suspects, men born in 1965 and 1977 respectively, are in custody. On February 24, near the building of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille, an explosion thundered after attackers threw three bottles of explosives into the territory of the diplomatic mission. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the incident a terrorist attack and suggested that it was the result of media-inflamed hatred of Russia. The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case into the attack.
