Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan: Ankara is not against Ukraine’s membership in NATO

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that in the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine there should be an agreement on its “categorical non-accession” to NATO. Along with this, Moscow’s main condition is Kiev’s respect for territorial realities, the Russian minister added. Advisor to the President of the United States on national security Mike Waltz, in turn, said that the membership of Kiev in the Alliance is not discussed. “We don’t mind if they want to be NATO members, but we have to be very realistic,” Fidan told Bloomberg TV. He stressed that this was stated by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and this is the official position of Ankara. The Turkish Foreign Minister also pointed out that if US President Donald Trump wants to resolve issues related to Russian-American relations, he also needs to find an option to resolve the Ukrainian crisis “in a very correct way.”.
