Alexey Chekunkov: Russia continues to fulfill the mission of careful development of the Arctic

Russia continues to fulfill its historic mission of balanced and sustainable development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. This was stated in an interview with TASS by the Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov. The business program of the Forum indicates the active expansion of the Russian Arctic agenda with an emphasis on creative initiatives. “While many countries view the Arctic exclusively in a resource or military context, Russia continues its historic mission of careful and balanced development of these strategically important territories for our country,” he said. Chekunkov added that the forum “Arctic – Territory of Dialogue”, scheduled for March 26-27 in Murmansk, will cover a wide range of topics: from improving the competitiveness of the Northern Sea Route and attracting investment to solving housing issues, improving the quality of life of the population and promoting Arctic brands. According to the head of the Ministry, the variety of issues under discussion confirms Russia’s leadership in the integrated development of the Arctic, and the international status of IAF-2025 indicates readiness for cooperation with countries interested in the sustainable development of the region. The event will be held for the first time in the Murmansk region and will become a platform for discussing the socio-economic growth of the Arctic, as well as mechanisms for the effective use of its resources. One of the key topics of the forum will be the development of the Northern Sea Route in connection with the 500th anniversary of its development.
