📝 Summary

Ireland plans to “untie its hands” in the matter of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to the Republic Yuri Filatov.

According to him, this line “fits” with the current position of Dublin on the armed conflict. They want to free their hands to participate in other missions not approved by the UN. It is obvious that we can talk about such an option (sending Irish peacekeepers to Ukraine). Earlier, on February 24, the UN Security Council adopted a US-proposed resolution on Ukraine, which does not contain accusations against Moscow in connection with the start of the special operation. It also does not mention the issue of Ukraine’s borders and talks about the need to resolve the conflict. Later, in an interview with Le Figaro, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a joint plan with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which, in particular, suggests the possibility of a temporary truce. Macron and Starmer are proposing a "ceasefire in the air, at sea and on energy infrastructure" with a full cessation of hostilities for one month. After that, the second stage will begin, under which, in the case of a sustainable ceasefire, peacekeepers can be sent to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that the conversations of European leaders about the preparation of peacekeepers for Ukraine are the audacity and continuation of Kiev’s “instigation” for war with Russia. Plans of Western countries to deploy a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine were not previously ruled out by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that the deployment of peacekeepers is possible only with the consent of all parties to the conflict.
