📝 Summary

Tomsk plans to repair a soldier’s synagogue worth about 60 million rubles. This is written on the website of the EIS of public procurement.

"Conducting works on preservation (development of working documentation, carrying out works on restoration and adaptation to modern use) of the cultural heritage object of regional importance "Synagoga (Soldier)", late XIX - early XX centuries, Tomsk region, Tomsk, Soviet district, Frunze Avenue, 15, corner of Belinsky street, 9. The cost of work is 59.9 million rubles, – stated on the website. A search for a contractor is underway. It is known that you can apply for the competition until March 27, 2025, and the work must be completed before April 30, 2027. On Frunze Street, 15 in Tomsk there is a unique historical landmark - Tomsk Soldiers' Synagogue. This is an exceptional architectural monument: the only wooden soldier synagogue in the world and one of the few surviving wooden temples of this type in Russia. The history of the building began in 1872. Initially, it housed a prayer school and a bakery for making unleavened bread. The fateful event was a fire in 1906, which arose in a nearby merchant house, which seriously damaged the synagogue. It is noteworthy that the restoration of the temple was carried out at the expense of the soldiers themselves. With the advent of Soviet power in the 1920s, the fate of the building changed dramatically. At first, it was transferred to a school for street children, and three domes were dismantled. In the 1930s, the Jewish community lost the rights to the building, and it became a dormitory for employees of Tomsk State University. This status remained until the 1990s, after which ordinary Tomic people lived in the building. Over time, the condition of the building deteriorated, and it was abandoned. A new stage in the history of the synagogue began in early 2018, when the city authorities decided to return the building to the Tomsk Jewish community, recognizing its importance as an architectural monument. Earlier we reported that the issue of the restoration of the Tomsk House of Officers decided to deal with at the federal level.
