Some representatives of Western countries in the office of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili insisted on opening a “second front” against Russia in the republic, said Tbilisi Mayor and Secretary General of the Georgian Dream Party Kakha Kaladze.
According to Kaladze, representatives of the West demanded from Tbilisi to send volunteers to Ukraine and support sanctions against Russia. “At a certain stage, it was difficult for us to say that, for example, in the prime minister’s office in the presence of the party chairman, they spoke rudely and directly by force, wringing their hands called for the opening of a second front in the country,” the politician told reporters. He noted that the imposition of sanctions against Russia will negatively affect the lives of Georgian citizens, while they will not have a significant impact on Russia. “When you impose sanctions that do not harm others, but only harm your people and country, how can you make such a decision?” The Prime Minister of Georgia has previously stated that the country will not be drawn into the military conflict in Ukraine, he also guaranteed the people of Georgia long-term peace with Russia. Immediately after the start of the special military operation, the Georgian authorities refused to support anti-Russian sanctions initiated by the West. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov, in turn, argued that the opening of a “second front” in Georgia would help Kiev. Neither the authorities nor the opposition supported this idea, because the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, recalled the ambassador from Tbilisi.
