📝 Summary

The proposed neutral resolution on Ukraine by the United States at the UN General Assembly was distorted and turned anti-Russian as a result of amendments introduced by European countries. This was stated by Russia's Permanent Representative to the international organization, Vasily Nebenzya.

The General Assembly adopted an anti-Russian resolution on Ukraine prepared by Kyiv and its Western partners on February 24. The Assembly also approved the U.S.-presented version of the document, which was amended by EU countries. "Unfortunately, in the absence of our amendment on the need to address the root causes of the conflict, and after the adoption of European amendments, the essence of the U.S. draft has been completely distorted," Nebenzya said after the vote at the General Assembly. The Permanent Representative pointed out that the changes made to the American draft turned the call for peace into another anti-Russian piece of paper. "We were ready to support it, but the European Union and its allies deprived all of us of this opportunity, bankrupting and devaluing the American draft," Nebenzya noted. Earlier, the Permanent Representative called the American resolution project a step in the right direction.
