Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Badra Gunba on his election as President of Abkhazia.
In a congratulatory telegram published on the Kremlin website, the head of state noted that the victory in the elections confirmed the support of the citizens of the republic of the Gongba line to ensure domestic political stability and development of the country. "I hope that friendly, allied Russian-Abkhazian relations will continue to strengthen for the benefit of our fraternal peoples," Putin said. The Russian President wished the President-elect success, good health and well-being. Earlier, the Central Election Commission of Abkhazia reported that during the second round of the presidential elections held on March 1, Gunba secured the support of 54.73% of voters who came to the polls. His rival Adgur Ardzinba received 41.54% of the vote.
