Soldiers of the 229th Infantry Division from the first days of the war fought at Stalingrad and Moscow, and from the 43rd year - on the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts. Soldiers participated in various combat operations, including the March offensive near Novgorod, the third failed attempt to liberate the city. As a result of the bloody fighting, the soldiers were able to liberate the village of Khutyn, where now a symbol of undying memory will appear. On this day, the right to light the eternal flame was awarded to Tamara Kalinina, the daughter of a sanitary instructor of the 229th Infantry Division. Tamara’s mother Nadezhda Vorobyov was a 17-year-old girl at the front, but she went through the war and was awarded military awards. The place of the memorial is considered special by the family of Tamara Kalinina and has been coming here for more than 40 years. Part of the Eternal Flame to the monument in Khutyn the day before brought from the Novgorod Kremlin. To the new place, the lamp with flame came in the careful hands of the Novgorod youth. So, the honor to light the new Eternal Flame fell to one of the members of the Yunarmia detachment Anastasia Arnis. According to the girl, she decided to join the action in memory of her heroic great-grandfathers. This year, after Khutyn, the Eternal Lights will also be lit in three villages of the Novgorod region: in Nebolchi, Lyubytino and Khvoyna. All technical works are carried out by Gazprom employees, who will continue to supply gas to memorials throughout the country for free in the future. To remember the exploits of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers is the duty of every citizen of our country. So, under the ringing of bells, the guests of the rally lined up in a long queue, so that in memory of the fallen soldiers, dozens of red carnations lay down at the foot of the new Eternal Flame.
