According to him, the restrictions oppressed not Bashar al-Assad, but the people of Syria. In this regard, Russia has already spoken to the UN in favor of lifting these restrictions. “We will raise this issue and seek the lifting of these unilateral sanctions without any conditions,” he said. He stressed that it is in Russia’s interests to prevent internecine wars in Syria, which may begin as a result of a change of power in Damascus. The minister also said that European countries offered to ease sanctions pressure on Syria in exchange for "kicking Russia out." Meanwhile, on February 19, Reuters reported that the EU intends to suspend sanctions against Syria in a number of areas, including energy and transport. From December 10, 2024, a transitional interim government was formed in Syria. This was done after opposition forces entered Damascus and announced a change of power in the country.
