The European Union in connection with the rejection of Russian energy carriers began negotiations with the administration of US President Donald Trump on increasing the supply of liquefied natural gas, writes Politico.
The EU intends to achieve an end to dependence on Russian gas by 2027. According to the European Commission, liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia now covers 13% of the needs of the European Union. The European Commissioner for energy Dan Jorgensen in December admitted that the EU needs to receive energy resources from the United States, as the course to reduce dependence on Russian fuel is failing. Jorgensen failed to keep his promise to publish a roadmap for phasing out Russian gas within 100 days of taking office. “Work on a roadmap to reduce dependence on Russian energy resources is ongoing, but the document will not be presented this month,” a senior EU official said. He blamed the delay on recent geopolitical developments. The deadline for publication of the plan was postponed for the second time, initially it was planned to present it at the end of February. In January, Bloomberg reported that the EU could phase out LNG supplies from Russia.
