"We look up to the heroes": sports competitions took place in Volgograd for Defender of the Fatherland Day.

In a healthy body, there is a healthy spirit. The organizers are convinced of this. Despite the cold weather, the event brought together dozens of sports enthusiasts in Volgograd. "This event is created in order for the civilian population and our young generation to 'absorb' this patriotism and the right direction of our country," notes the assistant commander for physical training of the 242nd Motorized Rifle Regiment, Mikhail Shulzhenko. The program included sports games and competitions: football, tug-of-war, army hand-to-hand combat, and much more. Participants included servicemen from the 20th Motorized Rifle Division, members of their families, as well as cadets and students of the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Education. "Today, the servicemen of modern Russia honorably continue the heroic combat traditions of their predecessors, faithfully and courageously fulfilling their military duty during a special military operation," says Lieutenant Colonel Maxim Tatenko. "Servicemen have always been an example of courage, heroism, and patriotism, and we must strive to be like these wonderful guys," explains the rector of the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Education, Viktor Yakimovich. Guests were able to see samples of weapons from different years and even try real soldier's porridge. "Wonderful atmosphere, great day. Many thanks to the organizers. Everything is very cool, awesome!" says senior lecturer at the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Education, Maria Barykina. At the end of the event, memorable gifts and sweet rewards were presented to the winners and participants of the competitions, as reported by GTRK "Volgograd-TRV".
