Sokolov added that while the French company was a shareholder of AvtoVAZ, it invested smaller amounts in the development of the enterprise - around 20-22 billion rubles annually. "It is clear that these investments will need to be somehow compensated upon return. Thus, the entry price will definitely not be equal to the exit price of 1 ruble," Sokolov said. Earlier, Renault CEO Luca de Meo allowed the corporation to return to the Russian car market. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin skeptically assessed the prospects of the French returning to the Russian market, noting that it is difficult for him to imagine what Renault can offer Russia now. In May 2022, Renault sold its Russian business and almost 68% stake in AvtoVAZ for 2 rubles. At the end of that year, the concern wrote off 2.2 billion euros from the cessation of operations in Russia. However, Renault retained the option to return within six years.
