The first Russian serial car was restored based on a photograph taken in the 19th century. Now it can be seen in the permanent exhibition of the Museum Complex of Civil and Military Equipment in Verkhnyaya Pyshma. Mikhail Yakunin familiarized himself with the characteristics of the automatic crew. The engine, self-propelled, automatic crew, and even a scooter - the press called this car by various names after its presentation at the industrial and artistic exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896. It was then that two inventors, Evgeny Yakovlev and Petr Freze, presented their country's first serial car to the public. The performance characteristics were impressive for that time. "It was set in motion using a crank starter, the engine started from the left side, through the spokes. And of course, the maximum speed was about 20 km/h, I understand that these are not colossal figures now, but at that time, the car had a range of about 10 hours," says tour guide Oleg Ushakov. It is now impossible to determine how many of these cars were produced, especially since the original drawings have not been preserved in the archives. Therefore, specialists restored the parameters based on the only historical photograph taken in 1896 at the Nizhny Novgorod exhibition. This single photograph formed the basis for the exhibition design of the car. "Here we have a separate zone for a special car. So we reproduced the pavilions here, naturally - it's not a complete landscape, so all these pavilions were located in different parts of a large space. You see, here it's like sepia, it's an old photograph," explains the head of the exhibition department of the Museum Complex of Civil and Military Equipment, Andrey Zimin. Museum specialists note that in the summer, visitors may not only see the car itself but also hear the roar of its two-horsepower engine.
