Bullying in the workplace in Russia is becoming more common, according to the results of a survey of the Academy of social technologies and the project “Companies for all ages”, which was acquainted with “Vedomosti”.
According to a study conducted from September 2024 to February 2025 among 308 people, 76% of respondents said they worked in organizations where bullying occurred. At the same time, in 2022, this figure was 63%. It is noted that bullying in Russian companies in most cases is “vertical” – 82% of respondents called their abusers managers (against 68% in 2022). According to 68% of respondents, bullying by superiors is most often manifested in oblique glances and facial expressions, and 61% of respondents mentioned ridicule, insults and unpleasant words. Among the manifestations of bullying were also called refusal to interact with an employee (53%), silence (50%) and ignoring (48%). At the same time, “horizontal” bullying (by colleagues) is less common: if in 2022 41% of respondents stated about it, then in 2025 – only 26%. The study also found that 6% of respondents faced threats of physical violence, and 2% – with the use of physical force. According to Tatiana Grigorenko, HR Director of Medical and Technological Park, the increase in the number of conflicts in the workplace is also associated with the entry into the labor market of a new generation of employees. Representatives of the generation of buzzers demand respect for themselves and are ready to openly discuss problems, which is unusual for employees and managers of the older generation. As the founder and general director of the school for training and research of communications Soft Skill Lab Alexander Klimenko noted, one of the reasons for aggressive behavior of managers is work in conditions of high stress. In such conditions, some of them find scapegoats among their subordinates.
